Glam Clam Finish Along – Are You Ready?

You may have seen this on my Facebook and Instagram pages but I’m really excited to launch the Glam Clam Finish Along! This “Finish Along” is for quilters in ANY stage of sewing a Glam Clam Quilt – even if you’re just thinking about starting one. It’s especially for the hundreds of people who have started the Glam Clam Quilt and it’s a UFO (unfinished object) or in the WIP (works in progress) pile. It’s also for the quilters that want to get started making one. The goal is for all of us to finish our Glam Clam Quilt’s together!

This was my very first Glam Clam finished back in 2013! It’s called Neon and Neutral and is still one of my favorites. I have several from that same era that I’ve yet to finish and I’m excited to pull them all out now!

The very first Glam Clan quilt titled Neon & Neutral finished in 2013.

Dates

The fun starts on Monday April 12th! And it will go on for six weeks ending on May 23rd of 2021. I’m super excited!

Schedule

Here’s a rough schedule. On Monday of each week, I’ll give you more info on what we’ll be doing that week!

Just getting started?

This section is for those of you who haven’t even started yet. To join you first need to do three things: purchase the Glam Clam pattern, select one Clammy template and fabric!!! If you’re not familiar with it The Clammy template is a template that cuts all the curved shapes – from clamshells to drunkards paths. Before you decide on your Clammy size and quilt size I have two recommendations:

  1. If you’re new to curves then I recommend either The Clammy 10″ or The Clammy 12″. TRUST ME on this!!! The larger the curve the easier it is to sew! It creates a really bold fun look. And there are fewer pieces so it goes together easier. It’ll be a much more pleasant learning experience. If you want to go small don’t go smaller than a 8″ Clammy! Save the 6″ Clammy for when you’ve perfected those curves.
  2. Second, if you want to finish your Glam Clam Quilt in this Finish Along my recommendation is to stick with a Baby or Lap size quilt as well! These are both pretty easy to complete in this time period.

Once you’ve decided on your Clammy size and quilt size next it’s time to do a fabric pull. Glam Clam quilts are excellent for stash busting! And we all need a good ‘reason’ to buy fabric. For ideas check out the #glamclamquilt hashtag on Instagram for lots of ideas!

Your pattern printed and PDF Glam Clam will have a downloadable coloring pages that will help you make some color and layout decisions if you need to.

The next steps are to cut out all of your pieces according to the pattern. Here’s a video that gives you a little direction on doing that:

Especially with those large 10″ and 12″ here’s a YouTube that will give you a little direction for maximizing your fabric usage!

Checklist

Are you ready? Here’s the checklist the applies to everyone!!! Basically you want to make sure you have ALL your clamshells and peripheral shapes cut out and your WHOLE quilt laid out! Then we’ll all be ready on the 12th! Here’s the checklist:
